I FINISHED!!!

So I finally finished the baby blanket that I am working on for Baby Girl Andersen. She's due tomorow. I now need to finish the little baby hat that goes with it. I really wanted to get this one done first though. This pattern was found in the Stitch N Bitch book titled Happy Hooker. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Here is a close up of the detail of the edge.

Wow! Christmas is almost here!

Well, these last few weeks just flew by. I've been very busy working. I've been given a bunch of hours and its all catching up to me. I am currently working on a baby blanket and had set from the book Happy Hooker. I'm really liking it so far. The blanket is pretty easy. So yeah I should go get back to that project. I'll post pictures once it is finished.

Let it snow?

Last week we had a pretty bad snow storm come through while we were sleeping. I guess it snowed something like 10 inches overnight. I was supposed to work on that Friday morning but Starbucks worked it out so I didn't have to come in. So after making pancakes for breakfast...Nick and I started to shovel. Well Nick shoveled. We only had one shovel. But in my defense I put up the Christmas tree all by my self....

Nick shoveling.

Underneath the mound of snow is our stairs. The snow drifted really bad. They stil are covered.

Apparently this is how we plow snow in the country...bring out the tractor!

So much for the posting everyday thing....

Yeah November and December are pretty much the worst times to do this. Its been busy with holiday stuff around here and then on top of working crazy hours and just wanting to sleep all the time. Yeah, Sorry...I stink. I tried. Thats all that matters. I haven't even been up for crocheting these last couple of weeks. but I did put the christmas tree up all by my self!

Christmasy Craft

Here is the candy cane wreath that I just finished. It was really easy to make. It ended up to be a lot bigger than I thought. I know its not crocheted but its still pretty cool.

weekend

Sorry its been so long since I posted. I am so bad. But things got really busy around here then this weekend I went to visit a friend and help her out with a forensics tournament. I got to Judge. Its been such a long time since I did any of that but judging for middle schoolers is kinda hard. They are doing their peices for the first time in front of an audience and some of them really did well and had fun. Others were forced to do it for a grade and you could tell. But I wasn't too harsh on them. I don' t want to discourage any of them yet. That will come in high school.

Man I missed another day

I am sorry I guess that posting everyday isn't working for me but I tried right! Thats Ok I'll keep trying. I'm sorry for not discussing my latest projects. I am being distracted by a little game called Guitar Hero 2! Its seriously awesome. Nick had some games he wanted to trade in and well we were able to get it today! The day it came out. So yeah, I'll be busy shredding the guitar or something like that for a few days. I'm hooked.

Who Knew Finding Yarn Would Be So Hard?

So there is a craft project that I wanted to work on but I needed Red Heart Light and Lofty Yarn in Wine and Cloud (or White). I ended up finding it at Walmart in Moline but I went to Walmart in Davenport and then to Ben Franklin Crafts and neither place had it. It was so frustrating. Ben Franklin does have some great selection for colors and brands of yarn but not the kind I needed. So anyway, now that I have the yarn I need I'm going to get started on my project.

OOps..

Sorry I forgot to post last night. I got side tracked with my new project. I have started my red scarf for the OFA. I am pretty excited about it. Although I picked a yarn that looks more orangey than red but it has red in it. This is how far I've gotten so far. Its a start but I really like it. I think it looks like its on fire! heh. Its very simple. Its just a double crochet. So anyway, there's the start of it. Hopefully it will get done soon.

Attention All Of You Crocheters and Knitters Out There

The Orphan Foundation of America is sponsoring or whatever their Red Scarf Project. What they do is around Valentine's Day they send out care packages to their scholarship recipents (I am an OFA Alum if you will) and they include a red scarf in with it. Its supposed to be handmade and because these college kids don't have families (in many cases) they get something that shows that they are loved. I loved receiving the OFA packages. It was really cool to get them so Crocheters and Knitters...the challenge is to create a red scarf (or more depending on how ambitious you are) and send it to the OFA for their care packages. If the link up top didn't work for you then here are the rules and info from the OFA website.

Love to knit, crochet or know someone who does?

Send warmth and encouragement to America’s college-bound foster youth. OFA needs thousands of handmade scarves to put in our Valentine Care Packages to these parentless youth attending college on their own. Your handiwork will truly be the personal touch in these packages and bring students the encouragement they need to move forward and graduate to a brighter future. For over 25 years, OFA has provided funding and family-like support to foster youth in transition. www.orphan.org

Scarf guidelines:

  • Size: approximately 60” long and 5” to 8” wide. Scarves should be long enough to be wrapped around the neck with tails long enough to be tied in the front.
  • Style: Think unisex collegiate. Fringe optional. Should drape, tie easily and be soft.
  • Color: Red! This could mean burgundy, cherry, russet, red stripes with other colors, multicolor hues including red. Other unisex colors, including black, navy, gray, teal, olive or gold, are also welcome.
  • Finished & tagged: Yarn ends securely sewn in. For the personal touch, attach a tag saying “Handmade for You” with your first name, city, and group affiliation, if any. Donors have also included washing instructions, messages of encouragement, and gift cards/burger bucks/book of stamps.

Thank you! Your scarf may be the first handmade gift a young man or woman has ever received. Your efforts will truly be appreciated!

One of My Many Projects

I bet you didn't think I was going to post today. Well I did! Just in time too. I might fall asleep soon. Heh...
This is the start of my newest blanket. It was supposed to be a Christmas present. But it won't get done by Christmas. I think it will have to be a birthday present. Seeing how I work at 5am most days and I have to get up at 3:30am to make it out there on time. When I get home I'm not in the mood to crochet. This blanket was the experiment blanket. Its taking way too long and using more yarn than my previous Hair Pin Lace Blanket.

This is the close up detail. The only thing is that I forgot to rotate the picture. The colors should go horizontally starting with the green on top. isn't it cool though. I can't wait until I'm done with it.

Fish Heads

Since its Halloween I thought I'd add something that was sort of creepy. This little video doesn't scream Halloween but its kinda funny. It was a song that my sister and her friends would sing and had it on some tape. I thought I was cool when I would sing it at school but people thought I was weird.

NaBloPoMo

You might be wondering what NaBloPoMo is. Well since I just don't have the energy to keep up with NaNoWriMo I am going to participate in the National Blog Posting Month. Once a day for a whole month I will be posting on my new blog. So hopefully that will inspire me to keep up with some crochet projects. Hopefully Blogger won't drive me nuts and I'll be able to post pictures right on to the blog. I tried to yesterday and it wouldn't let me. So anyway, thats the goal for the month so I can hopefully work on some projects and share them with you. I'll be taking a short break until November 1st. See you then!

Hello Fellow Crocheters

I'm a bit of a "granny in training" if you will. I've been crocheting for only like a year and a half. I am feeling the need to blog about my projects and share my art on the world wide web. I am always looking for patterns and yarn. Drop a line if you know of any good deals or any websites with free yarn.
Here's a link to pictures of some of my finished projects. I only have pictures of two blankets I have made. I'll get more pictures in there of my finished Hobo Bag and my in process Christmas Tree Skirt. I have like 3 projects going on at once. After all I am my mother's daughter.
