I'd really like a sewing machine and branch out into other craftiness. Right now I'm working on a Christmas present and for reasons that I don't want to ruin a surprise I'm not saying any more. Look out for updates here. I'm getting back into the swing of things.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-28689830302133447412008-09-17T07:05:00.001-07:002008-09-17T07:06:48.153-07:00I'm sorry about the breakI took a long break and I haven't gotten much crafting done since the brown and pink flower blanket. We've been pretty busy. I hope to soon make some more creations for my own baby. So stay tuned for some crafting!Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-49471404794604917832008-04-28T13:16:00.000-07:002008-04-28T13:22:28.651-07:00More Pink and Brown Baby BlanketsSo I made this baby blanket for someone that I work with. I really liked the pattern but I played with the colors to match a bit more of what I was told the baby's room would look like. This picture makes the blanket look uneven...its just the way i had it laying. It was scrunched in the middle...I tried.

This is a close up of the blanket with three of the flower colors.

This is a close up of a flower. Shame on me! Well I will be getting back to posting some of my projects. For such a long time I was basically making the same thing for a bunch of different people. I had loved the pink, brown and white blanket pattern so much that everyone having a baby got one. So I figured it wasnt' worth reposting. So anyway, I did manage I think like 20 or so projects last year and I didn't display all of them. Then my camera died so I got two more out and I couldn't take pictures of them...so that was sad. So anyway, I'm back and I'll be crocheting my hands off. So stay tuned...hopefully someone out there is still reading.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-30127264136430030092007-09-07T20:50:00.000-07:002007-09-07T20:51:38.019-07:00Get out your red yarn!I know I've been gone...I've been very busy BUT I just wanted to update anyone who's been reading this blog on and off about the Red Scarf project. I figure its better late than never and finally I am able to post what I've created. Both projects were baby gifts. And it didn't dawn on me until now that for both gifts I made blankets with matching hats. I guess its a new trend.

This particular gift set was a baby shower gift for my friend who is having her baby in March. I completed the blanket in January...the sock monkey wasn't finished until February but it isn't a crocheted piece so I guess it doesn't count as one of my monthly projects. This was my first time hand sewing a stuffed animal. Well, my first time hand sewing anything. I found the pattern for the baby blanket and hat first in the book Stitch N Bitch Happy Hooker Book. When I saw the picture for the baby blanket and hat I thought that it would be way cool to make a sock monkey for the gift. While wandering through Fleet Farm I found the original Rockford Red Heel Socks with the sock monkey directions.

Here is the blanket that I made. The pattern called for a different border. As I was finishing the border of the blanket I thought that it looked kinda crappy so I did a different border. I am much happier with this border.

This is a close up of the blanet. The pattern called for two crocheted sock monkey heads.

This is a picture of the baby hat that came with the pattern.
This is a picure of the first sock monkey I have ever done. I know the ears aren't even but it gives him some character. I crocheted a little vest for him because I sewed his arms on unevenly. The vest hides the bad job I did on the arms.

This is the other project I did in January. Its another baby gift. I didn't get a chance to take pictures of that one but I re did the same pattern and blanket. I love how this looks. The little hat is so adorable. The pattern is easy and the blanket is durable.

Those are the projects I got done for January. I have completed a couple of February projects but I am waiting to show those until I finish the last project.
Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-11105719572876126042007-02-07T16:00:00.000-08:002007-02-07T16:05:06.275-08:00So Far So Good!Well I am on task with the one project a month. For January I completed another pink, white, and brown baby blanket and hat for another new baby. February I finished a sock monkey blanket, hat, and a sock monkey for another baby shower gift. I was also asked to make another pink, white and brown hat for the first person who recieved the first set. And now I am making a blue beanie hat for a friend and I am working on a blanket for my nephew. So I think I'm doing good. I am certainly on track for the one project a month and then some. I will put pictures up later...but I am having technical difficulties and my camera and computer aren't communicating. That is no good!Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-9665592252072305702007-01-01T10:19:00.000-08:002007-01-01T10:38:05.850-08:00What a year for a new year....Happy New Year to my readers...This year one of my resolutions is to crochet more. My goal is to make one thing per month. I have a lot of work to do. So we'll see. I'd like to donate things to the warm up america or the project linus. So we'll see. I hope everyone is doing well. I need to go and eat something.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-28067134190945393152006-12-21T13:06:00.000-08:002006-12-21T13:26:08.909-08:00I FINISHED!!!So I finally finished the baby blanket that I am working on for Baby Girl Andersen. She's due tomorow. I now need to finish the little baby hat that goes with it. I really wanted to get this one done first though. This pattern was found in the Stitch N Bitch book titled Happy Hooker. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Here is a close up of the detail of the edge.

Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-87013455393896740502006-12-20T15:58:00.000-08:002006-12-20T16:01:15.541-08:00Wow! Christmas is almost here!Well, these last few weeks just flew by. I've been very busy working. I've been given a bunch of hours and its all catching up to me. I am currently working on a baby blanket and had set from the book Happy Hooker. I'm really liking it so far. The blanket is pretty easy. So yeah I should go get back to that project. I'll post pictures once it is finished.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-1165346179462817032006-12-05T11:14:00.000-08:002006-12-05T11:16:19.473-08:00Hey All You Fiber Artists Out There!I don't remember how I found this podcast but I stumbled on to this and if you are interested in it check out this link. I guess it snowed something like 10 inches overnight. I was supposed to work on that Friday morning but Starbucks worked it out so I didn't have to come in. So after making pancakes for breakfast...Nick and I started to shovel. Well Nick shoveled. We only had one shovel. But in my defense I put up the Christmas tree all by my self....

Nick shoveling.

Underneath the mound of snow is our stairs. Its been busy with holiday stuff around here and then on top of working crazy hours and just wanting to sleep all the time. Yeah, Sorry...I stink. I tried. Thats all that matters. Sarah and I were locker buddies in high school. She just recently got engaged. I am so bad. But things got really busy around here then this weekend I went to visit a friend and help her out with a forensics tournament. I got to Judge. Its been such a long time since I did any of that but judging for middle schoolers is kinda hard. They are doing their peices for the first time in front of an audience and some of them really did well and had fun. Others were forced to do it for a grade and you could tell. But I wasn't too harsh on them. I don' t want to discourage any of them yet. That will come in high school.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-1162954373769985792006-11-07T18:38:00.000-08:002006-11-07T18:52:53.776-08:00Man I missed another dayI am sorry I guess that posting everyday isn't working for me but I tried right! Thats Ok I'll keep trying. I'm sorry for not discussing my latest projects. I am being distracted by a little game called Guitar Hero 2! Its seriously awesome. Nick had some games he wanted to trade in and well we were able to get it today! The day it came out. So yeah, I'll be busy shredding the guitar or something like that for a few days. I'm hooked.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-1162777290481451762006-11-05T17:36:00.000-08:002006-11-05T17:41:30.486-08:00Who Knew Finding Yarn Would Be So Hard?So there is a craft project that I wanted to work on but I needed Red Heart Light and Lofty Yarn in Wine and Cloud (or White). I ended up finding it at Walmart in Moline but I went to Walmart in Davenport and then to Ben Franklin Crafts and neither place had it. It was so frustrating. Ben Franklin does have some great selection for colors and brands of yarn but not the kind I needed. So anyway, now that I have the yarn I need I'm going to get started on my project.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-1162656723280026712006-11-04T08:08:00.000-08:002006-11-04T08:12:03.296-08:00OOps..Sorry I forgot to post last night. I got side tracked with my new project. I have started my red scarf for the OFA. I am pretty excited about it. Although I picked a yarn that looks more orangey than red but it has red in it. This is how far I've gotten so far. Its a start but I really like it. I think it looks like its on fire! heh. Its very simple. Its just a double crochet. So anyway, there's the start of it. Hopefully it will get done soon.

Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-1162502287512165442006-11-02T13:16:00.000-08:002006-11-02T13:29:19.713-08:00Attention All Of You Crocheters and Knitters Out ThereThe Orphan Foundation of America is sponsoring or whatever their Red Scarf Project. What they do is around Valentine's Day they send out care packages to their scholarship recipents (I am an OFA Alum if you will) and they include a red scarf in with it. Its supposed to be handmade and because these college kids don't have families (in many cases) they get something that shows that they are loved. I loved receiving the OFA packages. It was really cool to get them so Crocheters and Knitters...the challenge is to create a red scarf (or more depending on how ambitious you are) and send it to the OFA for their care packages. If the link up top didn't work for you then here are the rules and info from the OFA website.

Love to knit, crochet or know someone who does?

Send warmth and encouragement to America’s college-bound foster youth. OFA needs thousands of handmade scarves to put in our Valentine Care Packages to these parentless youth attending college on their own. Your handiwork will truly be the personal touch in these packages and bring students the encouragement they need to move forward and graduate to a brighter future. For over 25 years, OFA has provided funding and family-like support to foster youth in transition. www.orphan.org

Scarf guidelines:

Size: approximately 60” long and 5” to 8” wide. Scarves should be long enough to be wrapped around the neck with tails long enough to be tied in the front.

Style: Think unisex collegiate. Fringe optional. Well I did! Just in time too. I might fall asleep soon. Heh...
This is the start of my newest blanket. It was supposed to be a Christmas present. But it won't get done by Christmas. I think it will have to be a birthday present. Seeing how I work at 5am most days and I have to get up at 3:30am to make it out there on time. When I get home I'm not in the mood to crochet. This blanket was the experiment blanket. Its taking way too long and using more yarn than my previous Hair Pin Lace Blanket.

This is the close up detail. The only thing is that I forgot to rotate the picture. The colors should go horizontally starting with the green on top. isn't it cool though. I can't wait until I'm done with it.Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36818246.post-1162324215836285432006-10-31T11:50:00.000-08:002006-10-31T11:50:15.840-08:00Fish Heads

Since its Halloween I thought I'd add something that was sort of creepy. This little video doesn't scream Halloween but its kinda funny. It was a song that my sister and her friends would sing and had it on some tape. I thought I was cool when I would sing it at school but people thought I was weird. Well since I just don't have the energy to keep up with NaNoWriMo I am going to participate in the National Blog Posting Month. Once a day for a whole month I will be posting on my new blog. So hopefully that will inspire me to keep up with some crochet projects. Hopefully Blogger won't drive me nuts and I'll be able to post pictures right on to the blog. I tried to yesterday and it wouldn't let me. So anyway, thats the goal for the month so I can hopefully work on some projects and share them with you. I'll be taking a short break until November 1st. See you then!
Sam-a-lamahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15015479532467240546noreply@blogger.com0
